Klettersteig (Via-Ferrata) Course

Two day Klettersteig (Via Ferrata) course suitable for beginners and people with some experience.

Course will take place near Vienna, so no overnight stay needed.

Day 1: Mödlinger Klettersteig (B/C). Meeting time 9.00

Morning:

Description and correct useof the equipment
Partner check
Basics of climbing technique on the Klettersteig
Overtaking and use of the slings for resting
keeping correct distance
Klettersteig will be climbed up and down (there are Klettersteige which are intended to be climbed down)

Lunch

Afternoon

Tour planning (next days tour will be planned together with the participants)
Explanation of Klettersteig Topos, Maps, Weather, Klettersteig-literature
Equipment
Easy Abseiling und belaying

End 16.00

Day 2: Währinger Steig (C) and Ganghofer Steig (C/D)

Meeting point 9.00 Car park Dreistetten Sportplatz

Morning

Climbing the Währinger Steig (2x up and 1x down)
Refinement of climbing technique
Revision of day 1
Efficient use of the Klettersteig set
Efficient climbing on the Klettersteig
- Small break -
Walk to the Ganghofersteig via the Zischkasteig
Use of the map
Climbing of the Ganghoferesteig

Lunch and break at the Herrgottschnitzer Haus

Afternoon:

Short summary of the course, and what weve learned so far
Emergency calls, and what to do if something goes wrong
Walking technique
Orientation using a map
Questions and Answers
Descent back to the car park

Equipment:
Klettersteig set (Y-Lanyard), helmet, harness, slings, 1 carabiner (can be rented free of charge at Alpenverein Austria), optional Klettersteig gloves. Functional hiking/sport clothing, rain jacket, hiking boots, preferably with vibram soles, Rucksack, drinks and snacks

leader fee, Klettersteig equipment can be rented at Alpenverein Austria Servicestelle (reservation & pick up at Rotenturmstraße 14) for the course, free of charge. If you dont yet own Klettersteig equipment, please don´t buy it before the course, as you will get some advice about buying equipment during the course. Of course, you can bring along your own equipment if you already have it. (If required, please let us know when you register)
